Going Green


Park Plaza County Hall is conscious that the action of our staff as well as guests has a great impact on the world around us. Many of our daily practices and hotel features are designed with the environment in mind as well as look towards sustaining for the future.

Our environmental commitment:

  • We have and will continue to identify and implement eco-friendly policies through the use of our appointed Green Team.
  • We will work with our supplier partners to reduce their packaging and transport to our hotel.
  • We will purchase fair trade items and ethically sourced produce.
  • We will monitor utility consumption levels on a monthly basis and aim to reduce consumption at every opportunity. 
  • We will endeavour to use eco-friendly chemicals throughout the hotel.

Reduce, re-use and recycle

  • Dual flush toilets to save water
  • Installation of low energy light bulbs
  • Walk in showers to encourage guests to use the shower instead of the bath resulting in water saving 
  • Dedicated recycling units
  • Recycling of obsolete IT equipment through local charities, in accordance with WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive)

Going Green at County Hall

  • We have now installed our own water bottling plan onsite, massively reducing our carbon footprint
  • Keypark systems control lighting, heating and air coolers when room not in use
  • Building management systems are in place to control temperatures throughout the building
  • Energy efficient lifts
  • Energy saving lighting, dimmers and motion detectors are in place
  • We have are a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme and have received a Gold Award
  • We are now a member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA)
  • We have joined the Bag It and Bin It campaign
  • We are now a member of Green Team Britain
  • Micro-fibre cloths are being used by our Housekeeping Team
  • We now stock Fair Trade coffees, teas and sugars
  • Replace bed linen every other day unless on request

Local support

  • Provide information on walks, wildlife and parks for our guests
  • Provide local transport services information to our staff and guests
  • We offer a green alternative taxi company to our guests
  • Provide cycle hire information along with details of various cycle routes
  • Provide complimentary secure bicycle parking for staff and guests
  • Use local produce where possible
  • Use organic produce where possible
  • Park Plaza County Hall regularly take part in environmental events throughout the year in support of charities

Everyday actions

  • Provide newspapers on request to avoid wastage
  • Weekly monitoring of water/gas/electricity consumption to aid reducing consumption levels
  • Bulk purchase of concentrate chemicals
  • Refillable chemical containers
  • Compact waste so less collections required
  • Use bio-degradable refuse sacks
  • Re-use towels on guest request
  • Encourage cycle to work and have provided cycle rack facilities
  • Encourage local transport and provide information on their facilities
  • Provide walking maps and jogging information to all our guests
  • Purchase recycled paper and other goods
  • Recycling of paper, plastic, card board, glass, polythene wrappers, tin cans, plastic cups, mobile phones, waste cooking oil, toner cartridges, batteries and fluorescent tubes
  • We use eco-friendly vacuum cleaners
    - made from 100% recyclable materials
    - manufactured in a near zero facility
    - uses water as the first line of filtration so no paper bags go into the landfill
    - uses an extended-life HEPA filter that is washable and reusable
    - uses up to 60% less energy
  • We have a dedicated environmental group driving forward new ideas and practices
  • Ongoing environmental and awareness training
